Presentation

White tablets, 6 mm in diameter, plain on one side, marked SB/4 and scored on the other.   Each tablet contains 0.5 mg Ethylestrenol.

 

Uses

Ethylestrenol is a testosterone derivative which can be used in the supportive management of chronic renal failure.

 

Dosage and administration

Approximately 0.05 mg/kg bodyweight daily.

e.g.:     Small dogs/cats              1 tablet daily

Medium dogs                  2 tablets daily

Large dogs                     3-4 tablets daily

 

As with all hormone therapy there can be considerable variations in response to treatment: the above doses may need to be adjusted according to the clinical response obtained.   The tablets may be administered either whole or crushed in the food.   Where possible the daily dosage should be divided and given at evenly spaced intervals.   Normally a 10 - 14 day course is adequate, but treatment may be prolonged if necessary.

 

Contra-indications, warnings etc.

This product should not be given to pregnant animals.

Doses of 50 mg daily have been given to dogs for six to seven months without producing any detectable signs of toxicity.   In particular no evidence of liver damage was found.   However, where liver function is impaired, close supervision of treatment is always advisable. 

Androgenic side effects may be seen in animals treated with Nandoral, especially in entire female animals.

This product may cause a strong urine odour in cats.

 

Wash hands after handling the tablets.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Do not store above 25°C.   Store in a dry place. Protect from light.

Dispose of any unused product and empty containers in accordance with guidance from your local waste regulation authority.

Nandoral tablets may be used to initiate   therapy or to continue therapy commenced by the administration of long acting   parenteral products to allow more rapid termination of treatment if necessary.
