Understanding toxoplasmosis

There are two main causes of abortion in ewes – toxoplasmosis and enzootic abortion (EAE). Annual surveys (FlockCheck and EweCheck) carried out by Intervet have been used to calculate the number of ewes exposed to toxoplasmosis. Year on year, FlockCheck figures show that 60-80 per cent of ewes have been exposed to the disease. These are backed up by 2007 Barren EweCheck figures that show an exposure level of 73%.
