National survey reveals widespread nature of BVD virus

Infertility, abortion, respiratory disease and diarrhoea have led 243 herds to send bulk milk samples for BVD testing under Intervet's subsidised DairyCheck programme.  Some 73% of the herds showed current active infection, while a further 17% had evidence of exposure, but not necessarily active infection.
