Intervet continues to support the UK broiler industry

11 September 2003

Intervet UK is again the main sponsor of the NFU Autumn Poultry Meat Conference, demonstrating its continued commitment to poultry producers.

Intervet is the UK’s biggest supplier of vaccines to broiler producers, with a product range extending to over 25 vaccines. These cover all the main poultry diseases – including those with zoonotic potential, such as salmonella, that can have a significant impact on the overall perception of this industry.

Intervet also provides a number of added value services to the industry, including vaccine auditing. Performed in association with a veterinary surgeon, this service aims to facilitate best vaccine administration practices.

In line with the ‘back to basics’ theme of the conference, Intervet provides a number of practical solutions to solving disease-related problems.

Nobilis Salenvac T is the only inactivated salmonella vaccine for use in poultry in the UK. Within four years of its widespread adoption in 1997, Salenvac helped reduce human incidence of S. enteritidis food poisoning by over 63%, a result that hasn’t been improved by subsequent S. enteritidis vaccines. The product has since been updated so that Salenvac T now protects against both S. typhimurium and S. enteritidis, allowing full ACP compliance in one vaccine. In addition, Salenvac T provides for vertical transmission of antibodies into eggs and subsequently hatched chicks, with demonstrated protection against salmonellae from hatch onward.

Nobilis D78 and Nobilis 228E are Intervet’s two live Gumboro vaccines. They both provide protection against the ubiquitous and highly resistant virus responsible for Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD or Gumboro). Trials have shown that the income from IBD-free flocks can be as much as 28% higher than those with the disease. Key features of these products include quick and even dispersion in skim milk solution and bursal safety.

Intervet International is also sponsoring the Mycoplasma Conference, taking place prior to this year’s VIV in Utrecht.
