Strangles is a highly contagious and potentially serious disease which can cause problems for months leading to yards being closed down and unable to be involved with normal activities.  Control of disease requires good yard management and hygiene, including quarantine of new arrivals and horses showing signs of respiratory disease, along with vaccination.
